The School of the Arts at the University of Nevada, Reno presents world-class offerings from guest artists and performers, as well as faculty and students within the school’s departments of art, dance, music, theatre and visual arts. Most arts365 performances and exhibits take place in the Church Fine Arts Building on the University campus — many are free and all are open to the community.

Free parking is available after 7 p.m. in the Brian Whalen Parking Complex, north of Church Fine Arts, and in the Sierra Street Parking Complex, one block west of North Virginia Street between 11th Street and College Drive. A patron drop-off area is adjacent to Nightingale Concert Hall on North Virginia Street near College Drive.

Tickets are available (without a convenience fee) at the campus’ Lawlor Events Center, 1500 N. Virginia St., lower level entrance, Monday - Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.- 1 pm.; or at the Church Fine Arts Building box office on campus, one hour prior to performances. Captivating chamber music fans for over 16 years, the Argenta Trio performs masterpieces of the repertoire in three concerts each season. The Trio-in-Residence serves on the faculty at the University of Nevada, Reno and is comprised of James Winn, pianist; Stephanie Sant’Ambrogio, violinist; and Dmitri Atapine, cellist. Tonight’s program will include Beethoven’s Trio in D (the composer's reworking of his second symphony) and Brahms’ Trio in G (Kirchner's transcription of the second string sextet).

Nevada Chamber Opera presents Dido and Aeneas and La Voix Humaine (The Human Voice), two one-act operas which explore the timeless bond of love and death. La Voix Humaine by Francis Poulenc, set to a libretto by Jean Cocteau, is a tour de force for solo soprano. Set in Paris, 1932, a young woman has one final desperate conversation with her former lover on the eve of his marriage to another. Dido and Aeneas, considered to be one of Britain’s greatest operas, presents the powerful story of two lovers torn apart by supernatural forces, and features Dido’s famous and haunting lament, “When I am laid in Earth.” Universally acknowledged as one of Purcell’s greatest creations, Dido and Aeneas recognizes how our greatest strength—the ability to love—can also be our most dangerous weakness. Damon Stevens is the artistic director for the production.

He is currently a Yamaha Performing Artist.

In this rollicking musical directed by Sue Klemp, Rydell High's senior class of 1959 includes duck-tailed, hot-rodding "Burger Palace Boys" and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking "Pink Ladies" in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s. Head "greaser" Danny Zuko and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the high romance of their "Summer Nights" as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as "Greased Lightnin'," "It's Raining on Prom Night," and "Alone at the Drive-In Movie." An eight-year run on Broadway and two subsequent revivals, along with innumerable school and community productions, place Grease among the world's most popular musicals.

Join the University Big Band, along with a special guest artist, saxophonist Dave Pietro, as they kick off a week of jazz on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. Pietro was the lead alto saxophonist for the Toshiko Akiyoshi Jazz Orchestra for nine years, and recorded six CDs with the group. He has also toured and/or recorded with the bands of Woody Herman, Lionel Hampton, Maynard Ferguson, Louis Belson, Jon Fedchock, Maria Schneider and others. As a leader, he has recorded five CDs with such artists as Dave Holland, Kenny Werner, Ben Monder, Brian Blade and others.

Additionally, she holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in photography from California State University Eastbay. Govan uses the form of handmade books to preserve and convey personal stories about memory, inheritance and loss, as well as provide tangible and metaphorical stories of family relationships and legacy. Her books invite the reader to recall, relive and revise memories of the past and personal narratives yet to be.

"Ingrid Jensen with The Collective"

Born in Vancouver and raised in Nanaimo, Canada, Jensen headed east to attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Since graduating in 1989, her life has contained a whirlwind of musical activities. From her early days playing in the subways of New York, to establishing herself as a leader and soloist in a wide array of musical genres, Jensen has made her mark. Her performances as a leader and as a featured soloist have taken her around the world from Canada to Japan, Australia, South America, the Caribbean and to almost every country in Europe and Scandinavia. The Collective, one of the most creative and versatile ensembles in the region features the University’s own faculty ensemble: Dr. Larry Engstrom on trumpet, Peter Epstein on alto saxophone, Dr. David Ake on piano, Hans Halt on bass and Dr. Andrew Heglund on drums Each draws on a rich background, performing with such jazz giants as Charlie Haden, Ravi Coltrane, Cedar Walton, Joe Pass, Tommy Flanagan, Bobby Hutcherson, Peter Erskine, Robin Eubanks and more.

University Spring Dance Concert featuring the
"Lakota Sioux Dance Theatre"

Peter Whittenberger is currently working towards his Master of Fine Arts degree and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in printmaking from the University of Montana. His relational art and videos investigate ideas of what is common to us, exploring experiences we share in our day-to-day lives. His thesis exhibition theme concerns isolating ordinary activities and taking responsibility for them. By elevating the common to a level of importance, it is possible to accentuate similarities in our society. The intent of the work is to use these similarities to present ideas of unity and understanding in our community.

OLLI Hikers will explore the Reno/Sparks/Tahoe area by paths, trails and roads. Meeting times and places will vary, and hikes will take from two to four hours, usually finishing by noon or shortly after. Participants should be in healthy physical condition, wear comfortable and durable walking shoes or boots, and bring an adequate supply of drinking water. Use of a lightweight waist or shoulder pack and trekking poles is also suggested. If outings encompass lunchtime, participants should bring a bag lunch.
