Prep for Street Vibes Begins with Search for Miss Reno Harley Davidson and Miss Coors Silver Bullet

Street Vibrations 2010 is only four weeks away, but Silver Legacy is heating up with two competitions that will have Downtown Reno in hog heaven! The search is on for two ladies to claim the 2010 Miss Reno Harley Davidson and Miss Coors Silver Bullet titles! These aren’t any ordinary beauty pageants; these are competitions that cater to ladies who aren’t afraid to throw on their motorcycle chaps and a swimsuit to have some fun. Three preliminary rounds will be held in the Silver Baron Lounge at 8 p.m. on Wednesdays, September 1, 8 and 15. There will be two contests, one for Miss Reno Harley Davidson and one for Miss Coors Silver Bullet each night. The top three contestants from each contest each week will earn a spot in the Finals on Wednesday, September 22 at 8 p.m. in the Silver Baron Lounge. Ladies, here’s the chance to represent Reno Harley Davidson better than any macho man out there or strut for the love of the Silver Bullet. $500 in cash will be given away each night, with grand prize contestant winning $1000. “Fight for Air” event features Half Marathon, 10K and 5K Run/Walk

The American Lung Association in Nevada is celebrating its 8th year in hosting the annual “Fight for Air Run/Walk”. In efforts to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease the funds raised will further American Lung Association in Nevada. Our work in our community include school-based programs such as Open Airways for Schools for asthmatic children, youth tobacco prevention and cessation, advocacy for clean air and research to find a cure for asthma, lung cancer and other lung disease. The event features a professionally timed half marathon, 10K run, and 5K run. A 5K walk (not timed) is also scheduled for participants interested in walking. The courses begin at Damonte Ranch High School and all offer spectacular views. Prepare for Raging Laughter with Lewis Black at Silver Legacy

There aren’t many people in the world who enjoy getting laughed at for an angry outburst, but that’s part of what makes Lewis Black so amusing. He earned degrees from the University of North Carolina and Yale Drama School and got is big break in 1996 with a Comedy Central’s The Daily Show tapped him to create a weekly segment. “Back in Black,” a three minute rant about whatever was bothering him became one of the most popular and longest running segments on the show and also created a long and successful relationship with the network. Since then, Black has done numerous Comedy Central shows, which helped to win him Best Male Stand-Up at the American Comedy Awards in 2001.Increased exposure from The Daily Show eventually generated a record deal that has helped him create seven comedy albums. He received a 2006 Grammy nomination for Luther Burbank Performing Arts Center Blues and in 2007 won the Grammy for Best Comedy Album for The Carnegie Hall Performance. In the midst of a rigorous touring schedule, regular TV appearances and movie roles, Black has written two best selling books, Nothing's Sacred (Simon and Schuster, 2005) and Me of Little Faith (Riverhead Books, 2008). Both garnered critical praise as well commercial success and spent numerous weeks on the New York Times best seller list. As a playwright Lewis has penned over 40 plays, many of which have been produced around the country. In addition to his professional pursuits, Lewis is dedicated to a number of charitable organizations. A long time mentor with the 52nd Street Project, Black is also committed to raising funds for the Rusty Magee Clinic for Families and Health and is a strong supporter of both the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Autism Speaks. Cyclists find Silver Legacy on Cross Country Awareness Tour

A special group of cyclists are making a stop in Downtown Reno as part of a cross-country campaign to raise awareness and help prevent crimes against children. The first annual “Ride for Their Lives” will roll into Silver Legacy Resort Casino on Monday, September 13. Silver Legacy has partnered with the Surviving Parents Coalition on their month-long cycling trip that began on August 21 in Rochester, New York and ends September 22 in Los Angeles, California. The team of approximately 100 SPC cyclists will be making stops in 27 different cities across 12 states to raise public awareness and urge lawmakers to pass tougher standards that will help prevent predatory crimes. Members of the team will be staying overnight at Silver Legacy during the last leg of their trip. The SPC is made up of parents of children who are missing or have fallen victim to crimes like kidnapping, sexual abuse and murder. The “Ride for Their Lives” tour was organized by two fathers who lost their children to such predatory crimes. Their motto is to ensure “Not One More Child” becomes a victim. According to Forbes, the rating criteria was based on the risk that a company’s stock prices might fall precipitously or that company practices might lead to fraud charges or class-action lawsuits. Companies deemed to have low risk in these areas were classified as the most trustworthy, and were awarded favorable scores by Audit Integrity. The research firm studies more than 8,000 publicly traded companies, and provides data based on its Accounting and Governance Risk (AGR) ratings.
